- fear
Meaning
Night is asked to send away fears that appear by night (III.14). Pan and Korybas likewise have protective or relieving relations to mortal and dreadful fears (XI.7; XXXIX.3). The surrounding construction determines whether a god aids amid fear or brings its disturbance to an end; fear is not uniformly an attribute of the god invoked.
