all-seeing

Meaning

The adjective joins celestial vision to moral oversight without reducing either to the other. It describes the eyes of Helios and Apollo, but also Dike herself and Nemesis’s scrutiny of mortal life. At IX.7 Selene’s all-seeing character accompanies wakefulness and stars, a different setting from the explicit judgment of LXI–LXII.
