English renderings
Ridge; elevated mass

Meaning

Mountain ridges appear or come to light through Zeus’s head at XV.3–4, and Athena occupies the ridges’ lofty summits at XXXII.4. The genitive ὄχθων in the latter makes the ridges possessors of the summits; reported ὄχθους would alter the construction. The similar-looking ὄχος means a vehicle, not terrain.
