English renderings
Vehicle; mount

Meaning

Aphrodite travels over the sea on swan-associated ὄχοι at LV.20. The Nereids’ ὄχοι at XXIV.4 belong with Tritons, backs, and animal-shaped forms, so “mounts” may keep the image less mechanically specific than “chariots.” At LV.20 the apparatus reports ὄχθοις, “ridges,” against the adopted vehicle-word.
