English renderings
strength; power

Meaning

Aither holds Zeus’ unwearied power, and the thunder hymn acknowledges Zeus’ force before asking for its favourable direction. The epic form κάρτος names Heracles’ great might and the martial strength requested from Ares. In the latter passage strength enables self-restraint as well as courage, so “power” is not automatically aggression.
