English renderings
light; nimble; buoyant

Meaning

Lightness characterizes nymphs’ feet, Curetes’ steps, Aphrodite’s leap, and the air through which ships pass. With the Fates’ hope at LIX.6 it can suggest buoyancy, though the line does not fix a purely reassuring interpretation of that hope. The adopted dative there attaches to hope, not the mortal race. At XXXI.3 the apparatus’s κωφοί differs from the printed light footsteps in both word and attachment.
