head; summit

Meaning

Heracles wears dawn and black night around his head at XII.11. In LIX.12 the same noun-family names the snowy head or summit of Olympus occupied by the gods. The bodily image extends naturally to the mountain’s top; the suppletive form κρατί should remain linked to κάρα despite its different visible stem.
