Meaning

Night sends light into the lower regions (III.10). Pan and Meilinoe are instead asked to send frenzy to the limits of earth (XI.23; LXXI.11), where distance expresses removal from the petitioners. The Meilinoe optative ἐκπέμποις is adopted against reported infinitive ἐκπέμπειν.
