English renderings
shoot; flourishing offspring

Meaning

Persephone, Dionysus, Adonis, and Asclepius are described through the image of a shoot; Artemis can be a beautiful shoot without a parent named in that phrase. When a genitive names Deo, Aphrodite, or Apollo, the growth-image expresses offspring or derivation. It remains more vivid than a bare genealogical label and should not be forced into literal vegetation.
