Tethys

Meaning

The Prayer invokes dark-robed Tethys with the accusative Τηθύα (Prayer.26), while the sea hymn has Τηθύν and calls her Oceanus's bride (XXII.1). These two accusatives belong to the same named figure. The apparatus reports τηθύν against the Prayer's adopted form; changing the ending does not establish another deity.
