prerogative, honour, prize

Meaning

Notos’s rain-bearing activity is a prerogative received from Zeus (LXXXII.4). The final Death petition asks that old age become a good prize among humans (LXXXVII.12). There γέρας is deliberately placed beside γῆρας, old age, making reward and ageing audibly close but lexically distinct.
