Meaning

Dionysos has honours among the blessed (Prayer.9), Semele obtains them from Phersephone (XLIV.6), and chthonic Hermes receives a domain of honour from her (LVII.10). Themis is presented as the source of the gods' honours and mysteries (LXXIX.10). The noun can thus express recognized divine status or a sphere of entitlement, not only words of praise spoken to a god.
