English renderings
Dawn; morning light

Meaning

Dawn is directly addressed in LXXVIII.2 as bright and reddening through the world. Helios is her begetter in VIII.4; Heracles bears dawn and black night around his head in XII.11. The latter is cosmic imagery rather than a second narrative of Dawn’s birth. The heading’s name and verse’s vocative belong to the same goddess.
