gloomy

Meaning

Dawn dispels night’s gloomy course at LXXVIII.4. The adopted ζοφόεντα has a normally masculine accusative ending, although πορείην is feminine; this grammatical difficulty should remain visible rather than be silently corrected. The apparatus reports ζοφερήν τε and separately asks about a fuller alternative phrase. The query is not an adopted repair.
