Aphrodite

Meaning

Aphrodite is directly named at the opening of her own hymn and appears in the birth-language of Dionysos and chthonic Hermes. At XLVI.3 she accompanies the Nymphs in the image of beloved offspring; at LVII.4 she is the Paphian maiden in the local lineage. Those constructions should remain as printed rather than being replaced with a more familiar genealogy from elsewhere.
