of Bacchic dancing; leading Bacchic dance

Meaning

Dionysos is βακχέχορος in the kinship passages of chthonic Hermes and Palaimon (LVII.3; LXXV.1). The compound brings dance into the god’s identity rather than merely repeating his name. At LVII.3 the apparatus attributes the compound form to Casaubonus against βάκχε χοροῖο, a different division of the sequence.
