English renderings
earth-breaking; bursting from earth

Meaning

Lysios and Trieterikos receive the vocative ῥήξιχθον (L.5; LII.9). The English “earth-breaker” stresses breaking, while LSJ at LII.9 emphasizes bursting forth from earth. Emergence therefore remains a live interpretation. The compound alone does not decide between ploughing, an earthquake and other kinds of earth-opening action.
