celestial vault; circuit

Meaning

Apollo blends and harmonizes the whole πόλος with his lyre (XXXIV.16, 19); the Mother is sceptred over it, and Oceanus is called its beginning. The English “pole” should retain this extensive celestial structure. A single geometrical axial point is too narrow for the whole circuit Apollo orders.
