English renderings
To give birth; to be brought to birth

Meaning

The passive forms describe gods and mortals born from the Mother at XXVII.7 and Adonis born in Persephone’s bed at LVI.9. At LXXI.2 the middle ἐλοχεύσατο instead describes Persephone giving birth to Meilinoe. The change of grammatical subject matters: the one brought to birth and the one bearing are not interchangeable.
