English renderings
rest; sleep

Meaning

Dionysus rests in Persephone’s sacred dwellings at LIII.3, within the hymn’s linked images of resting and awakening. The participle places the god in that resting condition. “Sleep” is appropriate, but the verb alone does not state that he has died or define an underworld resurrection doctrine.
