English renderings
avenger; avenging power

Meaning

Zeus-Daimon is invoked as an avenging power beside wandering and universal kingship at LXXIII.3. The same hymn later asks him to turn away life-destroying griefs, so vengeance forms part of a power from whom protection is also sought. The title should not be reduced to a merely malevolent spirit.
