Meaning

Kabalah is the book's vocabulary for a concealed interpretation of sacred letters, names, and scriptures. Clymer joins it to a wider synthesis of ancient wisdom.

Use in the book

The Pentateuch is read as carrying an inward meaning beneath its outer narrative. The ineffable Name and the relation of divine being to the world are central applications. Historical sections also place Kabalists in the proposed formation of later fraternities.

Reading the argument

The exposition should be attributed to the author and his quoted sources. It is not a complete account of Jewish interpretive traditions, and the claim that Moses derived this entire system through initiation is a separate historical proposition.
