Meaning

The Book of the Law is the sacred volume functioning as a pattern for conduct and a pledge's religious setting.

Use in the book

The quoted explanation allows different scriptures in different religious circumstances. The book becomes a spiritual trestle-board: a design according to which the worker lives. Clymer then argues that an oath has force through what the person taking it regards as sacred.
