many-formed

Meaning

The adjective ranges across Protogonos, Eubouleus, Korybas, Adonis, Hestia, the avenging goddesses and the Muses. At XXV.3 it instead qualifies the forms involved in Proteus’s transformation of sacred matter. Variety of appearance is shared, but that grammatical difference matters: “many-formed forms” are not automatically named divinities or a doctrine of Platonic Forms.
