Iacchus

Meaning

Iacchus is named within the Dionysian invocation at XLII.4 as male, female, double-natured, and releasing. Hipta’s hymn places her amid his loud nocturnal dances at XLIX.3. The name therefore participates both in a sequence of divine qualifications and in a setting of collective celebration; neither occurrence supplies a separate biography.
