show forth; reveal; establish as

Meaning

The Nereids and Muses are each credited with showing rites to mortals, while Hestia is asked to establish “these people” as initiates in holy rites (LXXXIV.3). Disclosure of a rite and designation of persons are different constructions of the verb. The local claims to first revelation should not be forced into a single historical account of one inventor.
