The anonymous author promises a brief summary account of the whole art and divides the treatise into four parts to make it easier to understand. Summarischen begriff names concentrated exposition, not a claim that every possible occurrence, practice or historical account is exhaustively reproduced. His stated purpose is to guide sincere pupils away from confusion caused by false teachers, within what he judges fitting to disclose. The English “summary account” preserves that scope. This use should remain distinct from the separately titled Philosophical Summary among the companions: a shared English label does not identify the two texts or their authors.
