Meaning

The title page promises a process alongside a shown way and named matter. Proceß therefore announces an ordered account of how the high secret of the universal tincture is approached, rather than a bare list of substances. The promise is part of the book’s public presentation: it does not by itself establish that every necessary practical detail is disclosed or that its claims succeed. English “process described” keeps the distinction between a textual account and its performance. The later division into preliminary and subsequent work supplies a more specific internal structure than the title word alone.
