nourishment

Meaning

The Mother gives mortals kindly nourishment at XXVII.6. Pan's cosmic description uses the same noun for an airy portion of nourishment that kindles living beings (XI.16). The second is an unusual material image, not enough by itself to reconstruct a complete theory of cosmic physiology.
