Ortygia

Meaning

At XXXV.5 Leto’s paired childbirth statement places “her,” Artemis, in Ortygia and “him,” Apollo, in rocky Delos. The place-name needs that pronominal contrast for interpretation; it should not be assigned to both births simply because the line names both locations.
