Destroyer

Meaning

The Kouretes are both nourishers and destroyers at XXXVIII.14. The paired agent nouns make their opposing capacities explicit; the following lines describe anger against people and damage to lives and possessions. Destruction is therefore a real threatening possibility in the hymn, not merely an abstract opposite added for symmetry.
