English renderings
grievously pained; heavy with pain

Meaning

The Erinyes are heavy with pain at LXIX.7 among avenging, hide-clad and mighty descriptions. The suffering sense is lexically supported and matches the edition’s English. Their punitive setting also permits an association with causing grievous pain, but that contextual possibility should not silently replace what the adjective says of the goddesses themselves.
