Erinys, Erinyes

Meaning

The collective Erinyes are named in the heading of LXIX. The verse begins by addressing honoured, loud-resounding goddesses and then names Tisiphone, Allekto and Megaira. The heading thus supplies the group-label, which must not be counted as an occurrence of the noun in the verse.
