Meaning

The printed Sleep hymn says that he removes the practice or rehearsal of death while preserving souls (LXXXV.7). This direction is crucial: the apparatus attributes ἀπάγεις to Wiel against ἐπάγεις, “bring on.” The alternative reverses the movement and makes the familiar association between sleep and death more direct; the lexicon follows the printed removal without concealing that difficulty.
