Meaning
The East is a direction, a position of authority in the lodge, a region associated with ancient teaching, and an image of inward light.
Use in the book
Sunrise makes the direction a source of illumination. Officers are placed according to a solar model, and historical arguments assign wisdom an Eastern origin. The expression Inner East points toward a spiritual center, while the regulations use adoption in the East as an institutional formula.

Reading the argument
The levels should not be collapsed. A symbolic orientation does not by itself show a geographical transmission of a doctrine. The claim that learning came from the East is broader than the observation that the sun rises there.
