Meaning
Atimia is dishonor or deprivation of esteem. The judgment that something is dishonorable can itself be mistaken.
Use in the book
The Hermetic warning predicts a reversal of understanding in which souls take punishment as benefit and improvement as dishonor and outrage. The term marks their distorted evaluation, not the narrator’s endorsement of that evaluation. The ethical point depends on recognizing the inversion.
