Stobaeus, Volume II: Book II Chapter 7
p. 221Goods Concerning the Soul and External Goods
Of goods, some concern the soul, some are external, and some neither concern the soul nor are external. Those concerning the soul are the virtues, ⟨the⟩ worthy states, and, generally, praiseworthy activities. External goods are friends, acquaintances, and similar things.259 Goods that neither concern the soul nor are external are virtuous people and, generally, ⟨those⟩ who possess the virtues.260
Evils Concerning the Soul and External Evils
Similarly, of evils, some concern the soul, some are external, and some neither concern the soul nor are external. Those concerning the soul are the vices together with depraved states and, generally, blameworthy activities. External evils are enemies together with their kinds. ⟨And⟩ those that neither concern the soul nor are external are base people and all who possess the vices.261
