Arsaneck

Metals minerals and metallic preparations · A Chymical Dictionary

At a Glance

The word. An arsenic preparation distinguished by sublimation.

A place to read. The historical definition below, 1650 dictionary, unnumbered definition page 7; facsimile PDF page 335.

Historical Definition

Arsaneck is sublimed arsenic.

Meaning

The operation is part of the identification. The entry does not simply say arsenic; it names material in a sublimed condition. A historical passage may be concerned with that prepared form rather than its starting material, and the distinction should survive modernisation.

Compare Arsenicum, whose definition ranges over the flashing or salt of metals and Saturn. Similar spellings do not guarantee identical meanings within this dictionary. Here the secure clues are the expressly named material and its treatment. The entry gives no quantities or complete procedure, so it is a recognition aid rather than a reconstruction of the preparation.

Places to Read

Arsenicum. A broad technical name whose gloss includes metallic flashing and salts.

Sublimatio. An operation defined by the upward movement of heated dry matter.
