Language number and measures · A Chymical Dictionary

At a Glance

The word. A lifespan expression rather than a fixed calendrical year.

A place to read. The historical definition below, 1650 dictionary, unnumbered definition page 4; facsimile PDF page 332.

Historical Definition

Annus Aniadin is a long life.

Meaning

The dictionary explains this expression by duration of life, not by a stated number of days or months. A literal substitution of an ordinary calendar year would therefore miss its supplied sense. The relation to the neighbouring Aniada vocabulary is useful because that entry expressly concerns influences thought to contribute to long life. The connection is thematic; it does not turn Annus Aniadin into the name of a specific medicine or prove the longevity claims associated with the group.

Places to Read

Aniada. A term linking heavenly gifts, Christian sacraments and life-preserving celestial influence.

Aniaday. An expression for everlasting renewal and the world to come.

Annus Platonicus. A time expression given two very different scales.
