A place to read. The historical definition below, 1650 dictionary, unnumbered definition page 36; facsimile PDF page 364.

Historical Definition

Opopopyron Laudani is Paracelsus’s medicine for stopping fevers.

Meaning

The definition supplies an attribution and an intended effect. It does not give the medicine’s composition. Laudani belongs to the full compound name and should remain visible when locating the entry.

Use in the Book

Laudanum receives a different, ingredient-based definition elsewhere in this dictionary. A resemblance of names is a useful reason to compare the articles; it does not by itself establish that both expressions name an identical preparation. The present entry supplies only its relation to Paracelsus and the stopping of fevers.

Places to Read

Laudanum. A Paracelsian compound defined here through gold, coral and pearl.

Oppodeltoch. An ointment name attributed to Paracelsian usage.

In This Edition

The printed headword is Opopopyron Laudani. The transcription aid shortens it to Opopyron Laudani. This edition retains the witnessed spelling and makes the shortened form available as an editorial finding form. The therapeutic effect remains a historical claim, without an added clinical identification.
