Historical Definition
Mitigativa are surgical medicines that allay pain.
Meaning
The intended action identifies the class. No particular ingredient, bodily location or preparation is specified, so the heading cannot be read as a complete medicinal formula. Its place in the surgical vocabulary is nevertheless explicit.
Use in the Book
Incarnativa concerns the growth of flesh and skin; Maturativa the ripening of an aposteme; Mundificativa cleansing. Mitigativa sets pain-relief alongside these other purposes without claiming that every member performs all of them.
