Historical Definition
Karlina is wild dill.
Meaning
The dictionary gives a vernacular botanical equivalent. It supplies no description of leaves, flowers or habitat by which a specimen could be identified independently. The name should be preserved as a historical identification rather than expanded into a botanical description absent from the source.
Use in the Book
Laudina and Peucedamum likewise use familiar herb names as equivalents. Their brevity shows the compiler’s expectation that a reader will recognise a plant through an already known name.
Places to Read
Laudina. A herb name equated with angelica.
Peucedamum. A plant identified through the English angelica name.
