At a Glance
The word. A fungal-looking growth identified by colour and host.
A place to read. The historical definition below, 1650 dictionary, unnumbered definition page 13; facsimile PDF page 341.
Historical Definition
Calliette are yellow mushrooms on juniper trees.
Meaning
The historical description combines three recognition clues: a mushroom form, yellow colour and occurrence on juniper. It supplies no further distinction among growths. A modern species identification would therefore require evidence beyond the brief dictionary entry.
In a passage using Calliette, first check whether those same descriptive features are present. If an author employs the growth in a preparation, its attributed action is a separate claim. The entry resolves the material name through appearance and setting without validating any medicinal or philosophical use.
