Historical Definition
Edelphus is someone who prognosticates through the nature of the elements.
Meaning
The word names a person through an attributed activity. The source of prognostication is the nature of the elements; the entry does not identify an instrument, rule or particular event to be foretold. Its scope is broader than a single elemental medium.
Use in the Book
Divinatio names foretelling in general. Hydromancy concerns signs associated with water, while Pyromancy concerns fire. Those narrower headings clarify how an elemental setting can enter the dictionary’s account of prognostication, without supplying a complete method under Edelphus.
Places to Read
Divinatio. A general term for foretelling.
Hydromancy. Foretelling through manifestations associated with water.
Pyromancy. Divination through the signs of fire.
