Historical Definition
Vrina vini is vinegar; sometimes it is used for the urine of a person who always drinks wine.
Meaning
The definition supplies two possibilities and marks the second with sometimes. In one use the compound name means vinegar; in another it refers to urine from a habitual wine drinker. These senses should not be merged into one material preparation.
Use in the Book
Xisinum is directly equated with vinegar, while Vinum correctum is referred to alcohol of wine. The wider wine vocabulary therefore includes an ordinary acidic liquid, a prepared spirit and a bodily relation. The complete expression and surrounding passage establish the relevant sense.
