A Chymical Dictionary

p. 283

Sal scissum

Salts solvents and liquid preparations · A Chymical Dictionary

At a Glance

The word. An equivalence between two historical salt names.

In the book. The salt sequence frequently preserves several names for a material.

A place to read. The historical definition below, 1650 dictionary, unnumbered definition page 41; facsimile PDF page 369.

Historical Definition

Sal scissum and alumen scissum are the same.

Meaning

The compiler equates the complete expressions. Scissum is part of each name, so a search for the isolated words salt or alum would lose the distinguishing qualifier.

Use in the Book

The salt sequence frequently preserves several names for a material. The equivalence is recorded here without extending it to every substance called sal or alumen.
