Meaning
The Supreme Grand Master is the order’s chief governing authority. The regulations also distinguish concealed superior teachers and describe limits imposed by them.
Use in the book
The office presides, appoints officers, grants warrants, maintains records, and controls succession. Its holder serves for life and may name a successor. Yet the rules say he cannot change the degrees or the Grand Hierophants and remains accountable to the Great White Brotherhood. The printed description of the Grand Lodge names both an unknown Supreme Grand Master and a Supreme Grand Master; the lexicon retains this wording rather than simplifying the hierarchy.

Reading the argument
The claim that higher authorities prevent abuse is part of the order’s own justification. It does not supply readers with a public procedure for testing that accountability. Authority, secrecy, and the ethical promise of brotherhood therefore need to be read together.
