God's wisdom “has no number” in the warning against rash engagement with the spirit. The phrase marks immeasurable wisdom and the seriousness of divine works, not a claim that the art uses no numerical language. Its immediate companions are the warning that God will not be trifled with and reports of death or injury among presumptuous workers. The expression thus checks confidence unsupported by knowledge. It should not be detached from this caution and used to dissolve the treatise's later distinctions of measure, timing, and sequence.
