Meaning

Nature says the worker does not require a very great outlay, but does require a free, unburdened mind and a secure place where the labour is unknown to others. These conditions concern attention, freedom from interference and discretion, not a guarantee that the work is physically safe. English “secure place” preserves sichern Ort without equating secrecy with adequate protection from chemical hazards. The statement belongs to Nature’s offer of instructed assistance after her criticism of expensive, misguided activity. It should not be detached as encouragement to undertake hazardous work privately or without the knowledge the dialogue repeatedly requires.
