Meaning

Sublunary, literally below the moon, is used in the commentary to orient the reader to the lower or earthly created realm. It explains the setting of the “lower creatures” in the opening discussion and can be compared with the main text’s later moon-circle language. It is not an extra element, a named ingredient, or an additional attested German adjective supplied by the translator.

The gloss should not erase the text’s own distinctions between created nature, the light of nature and divine illumination. Those relations belong to particular statements about knowledge and providence, rather than to a single modern diagram of the cosmos imposed on every companion.
